Jeff reading Ulalume by Edgar Allen Poe
Thanks to Lu Yi's blog I have fallen deeply in love with the remnants of Jeff Buckley. At times his voice was like a bird taking flight, just soaring, bursting. It could also be haunting like a whisper, chanting. I love the way this record starts out quietly and gradually becomes louder as the music gains momentum with bi-polar bursts of emotion.

Beautiful. My heart has grown spiritually because of it. I love to go for nature walks and sing along. Even though I'm self conscious about my voice I can't stay silent with this record. My favorite lyric is, "listen to the story, about a love more faithful than the morning."

"Signals Over the Air" by Thursday"War All the Time"
This record was my best friend during one of the most difficult years of my life. I'd come home from school and paint with War All the Time as my sound track until the sun went down. I am still impressed with Jeff Rickley's craftsmanship with the English language as well as the music of the band. I was never really into hardcore (I only went to shows for the pit) and didn't like Thursday at first. They eventually stuck out to me as something more than typical hardcore music. They are very special

This is another record that I've been into for years and still love. The quality of lyrical and musical craftsmanship always made me want to listen again and again. Lovedrug's emotional and appropriately dark delivery in their music still amazes me. Every time I listen to Pretend Your Alive a different lyric stands apart as something for me to focus on.
Whenever I'm feeling down, and I swear by this, David Bowie comes on TV. If I turn on the radio there his voice will be. Every time this phenomena occurs I thank God. The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars is my favorite record of all time. When I was in a dark place in my life I'd put this one my turntable and get lost in Ziggy's world. Something about it was soothing. Not that it made things right again. I would just get this feeling of reassurance that someday things would be better again.
David Bowie said that he was very depressed when he created Ziggy. The purpose of the character was to not have to be David anymore. I realized that he used Ziggy for the exact reason that I did.
And now to continue the tagging game, I'd like to know what 5 records have changed the lives of New Electric Ride,the Feu Pale duo, Wendy Brandes, The Magic Doll and, Susana Cole. But I don't like this limit. I want to include Static Black Magic, Pauline Haydon, and Lu Yi.
