Trying to be Resourcful...

This is one of my favorite photos of Patti Smith. It was taken when she performed in the play "Cowboy Mouth." Perhaps it's a bit difficult to tell but upon close inspection I noticed that she used fabric scraps to patch up the holes in her jeans. Kurt cobain who was known for his threadbare and torn clothing wore jeans like this as well. Having holes in your clothes must not pleasant in the winter so I assume he got resourceful (or maybe Courtney did). I've been trying to be more resourceful myself. I haven't bought clothes in two months, which has required strength, but I haven't regretted my decisions. I'm attracted to garments similar to ones I've already got. During the closing months of last year I'd purchased new clothes that I could most certainly rock and returned them because I didn't feel that I needed them. I of course accept gifts but when it comes to purchasing things myself I feel that my music addiction has become more important.
A few years ago I actually ripped up a pair of jeans out of boredom (this can be a bad, bad idea) and haven't worn them since. I think I'll give the patched look a try.

These next two photos are from an i-D shoot. The jeans are patchworked from several pairs of Levis. A statement making pair indeed. And an example of resourfulness. I like to think that someone could take a couple pairs of jeans (or any items of clothing really) that each of different flaws and take the good out of them to make a wearable garment.

*Could someone i.d. the photographer for the above shot? It is one of my favorite photos. It truly captures a moment.

"Vibe" origin: 1965–70, Americanism; by shortening the word "Vibration"

I'm currently feeling a '70s vibe.

This song is a perfect fit.

Miss Glamourai is no doubt feeding this current fixation.

"All Flowers In Time"

"To meet Jeffrey was just like being given a set of paints. ... I had all this color in my life again. I just couldn't help falling in love with him. He was adorable, he was lovely. I read his diary; he read mine. We'd just swap, we'd literally just hand over this very personal stuff, and I've never done that with anybody else; I don't know if he has. So in some ways there was a great deal of intimacy, but then there'd be times when I'd just think, "I'm just not penetrating this Jeff Buckley boy at all.""

-Elizabeth Fraser (formerly of the Cocteau Twins)

Duet by Jeff Buckely and Elizabeth Fraser

Reading this sent a rush of emotion to my eyes. So beautiful.

"Love Will Always Love You"

Dear Readers,
I love you.
Many people see today as a an occasion to mourn if they haven't got a significant other. Please don't despair if you don't have an eros love. Growing up my mother always made Valetines Day a celebration of all love. So rejoice with you friends, mothers, fathers and brothers as well as lovers. Since the summer I've made a concious decision to become as much of a loving and accepting person as I can. There are alot of people out there who need acceptance. Even if you don't agree with someone's opinion or lifestyle, you can accept them.
I can't FedEx chocolates to each and every one of you so I've decided to share some great photos of Jennifer Herrema from RTX's myspace page that I'm finding to be very inspirational. Be sure to check out they're new stuff. "Cheap Wine Time" is my favorite.

"the sugary smell of springtime..."

This shoot for the upcoming Current/Elliott collection is making me wish it was spring. I love the white slips paired so casually with jeans. The '50s, '60s and '70s themes of the shoot remind me of that Levi's commercial that chronicles the transformation of the brand. I advocate watching the Kills version.

Oh, I can hear springtime on its way...

2.3.09

photo's from Foam Magazine via Gnarlitude

I really like these shots of Erin Wasson from Foam magazine. The t-shirt in the 2nd photo looks so perfect and simple. The above photo reminded me of my APC post where I ranted about improperly ripped denim. The Margiela look is not my cup of tea but I like that Miss Hippie Hippie Milkshake wears them with the interest of lace tights underneath.
