Dries Van Noten SS08
Yes, I'm a little late to write about this collection. I also struggle with dressing weather appropriate (simply putting a cardigan over a tank top in this weather still isn't enough for warmth, but I look great!) and don't pay attention to the 'which colors go with each season' rule (I wore midnight blue nail polish all summer). Since I have recently let down my hostility toward bright colors I can't help writing this post. I haven't paid much attention to Dries Van Noten but now I'm a fan. When I look at this collection I keep imagining each ethnic top with jeans and the loose patterned pants with t-shirts and converse. Plus the bangle necklaces are quirky in the perfect way. These pieces could add an unexpected special touch to any band t-shirt or simple pair jeans. Though I'd prefere beat up denim with these tops.

If You Want to Destroy My Sweater...
...I hope you are Raquel Allegra. She and I agree that trash can most certainly become a treasure. Raquel alters the knit patterns of leftover clothes and treasures pieces she finds from the LA County jail (marked with a stamp). After wearing her tanks, scarves and t-shirts to work at Barney's, she kept getting requests.
This reminds me of how people complement my outifits and are often amazed (or grossed out) that alot of what I wear is thrift. Most of my favorite clothes are things I've thrifted and altered myself. Ultimately I've come to look at clothing this way, it's all just fabric. Depending on how much there is you can manipulate it in a multitude of ways. My only exception is ugly fabric, its not worth the time. But I'm certain that Raquel Allegra's pieces are worthy of being worn and loved.

You Don't Have to Wear a Flower in Your Hair...
Intrigued by tie dye but don't dig dancing bears? Kill City won't soften your edge. In a palette of purple, black and grey these threads are more Patti Smith than Penny Lane. The pink designs could even be rocked out (and that's nowhere near my favorite colour.) The versatility of the patterns also sets these clothes apart. There are vertical stripes and decaying cross hatches as well as the usual sunburst pattern. Some of my favorites are the skeletal pattern that looks like a rib cage and the swirl that brings to mind natural patterns in rocks. Despite my clothing ban the one with the dream catcher-like pattern is en route to me as I type.
But Kill City's talents don't end there. The whole collection is pretty rock. I'm particularly intrigued by the acid wash "Voodoo" jeans (and mind you, I've had a hostility against acid wash for quite some time.) The modern cut won't make you look like one of my mom's college room mates. Wearing them with all black clothing would feel way more Bauhaus than Wham! Or pair them with a tie dye shirt for interest.
